You Can Help Change A Childs Future.
The Music Therapy Fund has been set up as a collaboration between Total Children’s Therapy (TCT) and The Dorset Children’s Foundation (DCF). It has been given a wonderful start by a kind and generous benefactor but is something that we would like to ensure continues and grows allowing it to support children and young people by bringing music into their lives in a therapeutic way. We hope that this is the start of something lasting that others will support and donate towards keeping this legacy and wonderful service going.
The fund will offer little blocks of music therapy into the lives of children who would not otherwise be able to afford this wonderful way of working. It may be that the music therapist works 1:1 with the child, in a group or works alongside another therapist such as a physio, OT or speech and language therapist.
What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is an established clinical intervention, which is delivered by HCPC registered music therapists to help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.
Because musical participation and response does not depend on the ability to speak, music therapy is a particularly effective clinical intervention for people who have difficulty communicating verbally.
As our TCT Music Therapist, Rachel Crennel, says: “I am constantly surprised and inspired by the way in which our children use music to play and explore and demonstrate what they can do when given a language that makes ‘sense’ to them. That’s what I love so much about working with music at TCT – it reminds me of what music is really about. Music is for playing, it’s about making connections and sharing – it’s about being part of something. Our innate responsiveness to music, as human beings, is something we all share. And that is something to celebrate”.
“My idea is that there is music in the air, music is all around us; the world is full of it and you simply take as much as you require”. Edward Elgar.
