We are just so delighted and honoured to announce that we have been chosen by 4Com as their 2018 charity partner and will be the recipients of up to £30,000, which will be raised by 4Com staff through a variety of fundraising events.

Our application was for a project aiming to purchase two portable changing and toilet facilities, which can be used at local shows and our fundraising events. Currently, the many families that attend these have to look after their children’s needs on the floor of standard toilets, an environment which is undignified and lacks privacy. Purchasing these new changing facilities will provide a fully-accessible tent with a toilet, hoist, mats and table, which can be set up anywhere and gives parents the environment needed to look after their children properly.

We also asked for funding to purchase two fully fitted portable sensory tents which will help children with sensory impairments relax and take some “time-out” when attending these events. This will help to ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy their day out and gives parents the chance to quickly and easily relax their children when they need some time away from their surroundings.

Dorset has over 2500 children registered as disabled. We put on many family fun events throughout the year to allow families to enjoy time together, but we know that many are not attending these due to the changing/toilet facilities. Those who do attend are having to change their children on a dirty portaloo floor, something we cannot have continue. Being able to purchase fully-accessible changing and toilet tents will help to ensure that children have a dignified and safe environment to be looked after in and gives everyone a more enjoyable experience on the day.” Patsy Hallmey.

Dean Cartledge, Director and Head of the 4Com Foundation said “Once again, 4Com staff have voted for an amazing local charity whose project will really make a difference to so many families in the community. Our first fundraising event is the Tough Mudder on the 18th August, so this appeal will help motivate us through the muddy trenches and icy swims to complete the challenge and raise the money needed.”
