Three Local Charities Working Together!

The Dorset Children’s Foundation (The DCF), The Steve Bernard Foundation and The Alliss Ferndown Charity joined together to buy Kitty, a local disabled girl, a fabulous new bike.
Kitty was born with two genetic disorders and she dreamt of riding a bike like her friends and family do. She wanted to get active and have fun. Because of her disability various bikes that she has tried over the years sadly haven’t worked for her. Unfortunately, because of her lack of strength and stamina she needed an electric bike to give her support when she gets tired and the terrain is a bit tougher. The cheapest quote for this was a staggering £8000!
Three amazing charities, along with donations from the public have made Kitty’s dream come true.
Kitty’s Mum said: ‘It’s been a long time since I have seen kitty with such a big smile. She loves it! She feels secure and relaxed and can actually ride it. We are just so grateful to the charities and everyone who has donated’.
Tony Bernard from the Steve Bernard foundation said: ‘We were delighted to be able to support Kitty in getting her mobile and active with this amazing multi terrain e-bike and to be able to work in collaboration with our good friends is always a pleasure as they too, strive hard to improve the lives of youngsters, and their families, in our community. We must also thank our supporters for their donations because without them, we cannot do what is needed in our society.’
Tiffany Fleming, Equipment Liaison Trustee for the Alliss Ferndown Charity echoes Tony’s statement, adding that: ‘the purpose of the Alliss Ferndown Charity is to equip children and young people throughout Dorset and adjoining counties with equipment that assists movement and, with it, freedom. Kitty’s new bike is a perfect example and we were delighted to be able to contribute.’
Patsy Hallmey Co-Founder of The DCF said: ‘We are thrilled that Kitty has taken delivery of her new bike which will give her a new lease of life and much needed independence. Kitty is just one child in our community and there’s so many more in need and we will keep striving, as a charity, to improve their lives’.
